New Grants Awarded

DIEF is proud to announce the awarding two new grants (Roots of Resilience & Small Island Repairs) to further support innovative environmental initiatives across our cherished island communities. These grants, totalling €19,000, will fund critical projects focused on waste management and sustainable agriculture. The projects on Silba and Hvar will reinforce our commitment to preserving the unique ecosystems of the Dalmatian archipelago.

Roots of Resilience

Grant Recipient: Samotvorac Society

Amount Awarded: €11,000

Project Duration: April 2025 – October 2026

This 18-month initiative will support the community in adopting environmentally friendly gardening methods that enhance soil health, conserve precious resources, and boost local food production.

Through a series of workshops, lectures, and hands-on gardening sessions, the project will develop sustainable skills among Silba’s residents with a focus on:

  • Practical techniques for vegetable gardening adapted to local conditions
  • Development and preservation of local seed varieties
  • Sustainable cultivation methods for traditional olive groves and fruit orchards
  • Water conservation strategies for island agriculture

Small Island Repairs

Grant Recipient: Permakultura Dalmacija

Amount Awarded: €8,000

Project Duration: September 2025 – June 2026

At the heart of this initiative is the promotion of the 5 R’s—refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, and Recycle—as everyday waste management practices. While engaging participants of all ages, the project emphasises children, aiming to instil sustainable habits that will last a lifetime.

The project addresses critical environmental concerns by protecting local marine and terrestrial ecosystems from waste contamination while strengthening community resilience through practical skills development.

These new grants represent the Dalmatian Islands Environment Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting grassroots environmental initiatives that protect our natural heritage while building more resilient island communities.
